Curriculum Mortem ☠️ 

As scientists, we know that all fields of knowledge progress through trial and error. Yet, following a tough conversation with a brilliant graduate student who had just had a paper rejected for the second time, I realized just how invisible the error is. We accumulate (and too rarely celebrate) our successes into these documents that serve one of two functions: providing fodder to hiring and review committees and inspiring (read: intimidating) junior scholars. 

 

This page is making good on a promise I made to that student: If I get tenure, I will keep an updated curriculum mortem on my website. Please find below a well-formatted document of my failures. And as for Student, I cannot wait until the world sees her successes.
